Ingredients

For the bread
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the topping
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the topping

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and prepare the batter.
  2. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt) and wet ingredients (buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract) separately, then combine gently.
  3. Layer half the batter in the loaf pan, sprinkle with half the cinnamon-sugar mixture, then add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Swirl gently with a knife.
  4. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar topping while still warm.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh ground cinnamon. Let the bread cool slightly before slicing for clean cuts.
